INITIATING THE TOPIC OF SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS WITH YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Below is a suggested email you can send out to gather your neighborhood's interest
Let us take the neighborhood along - the most optimum way to explore cameras, getting feedback from your neighbors about this project is super critical. If we move forward too fast, without neighborhood feedback and consensus, the project is likely going to fail Forcing this project through into your neighborhood is a VERY bad idea
Currently, there isn't a city of Saratoga policy with surveillance cameras, and installing cameras falls upon each home owner or the neighborhood group/HOA. If you are looking for recommendations for surveillance cameras for your home, you can find product recommendations at www.RishiKumar.com/tips You can copy and use this form http://tinyurl.com/CameraPilot to gather feedback from your neighbors Alternately, you can collect feedback via an email reply.
SUBJECT: How about surveillance camera(s) in our neighborhood? Hello neighbors, Today, at least 6 Saratoga neighborhoods have been hosting surveillance cameras at their entrance/ egress points of the neighborhood. Three of these running have been launched as part of the Safe Saratoga Citizens Forum inititiave (http://facebook.com/groups/safesaratoga), the idea being to place a camera at the entrance(s) of the neighborhood and have video available to law enforcement (and only to law enforcement) upon occurrence of crime.
Statistically, surveillance cameras have been proven to reduce crime. The neighborhoods that have installed cameras at the entrance/egress points have seen almost zero crime •Cameras are an effective/proven tool to drop crime. Proven examples with California cities such as Lafayette, Orinda, Moraga, Fremont. Below is a deck that clearly shows success with crime reduction after installation of surveillance cameras http://www.slideshare.net/rishi59/moraga-surveillance-camera
Would you be interested in installation of surveillance cameras at the entrance(s) of our neighborhood to help prevent crime? I think this would be a good neighborhood deterrent to have for folks looking to target our neighborhood. The project would be funded by our neighbors. Two parts: A capital investment (for the hardware/cameras) and an annual maintenance fee. Our fair share will be contingent upon how many neighbors participate - but in the range of $30-$100/family, good for upto 3 years.
